The Hypnotist's Love Story
Liane Moriarty

A must read!

Mister Pip - Lloyd Jones

I read this book while volunteering in South Africa. The scene is beautifully set. You can see the glossy green jungle leaves!

Its three years since I've read this, so to give a proper review, I'll have to read it again, with pleasure!

SPOILER ALERT!

No brain power required!

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy - Helen Fielding

After a busy week at work, I needed to unwind with something non-taxing on the brain. Reviews of the new Bridget Jones kept popping up on good reads, so I gave it a whirl.

'Mad about the boy' is what it is, a somewhat silly but enjoyable love story. We see Bridget mourne mark Darcy (not a spoiler, everyone knows!). She's now  50 and looking for love. Predictably, she makes an absolute eejit of herself along the way.

look, it's good. It's not great. It's good. It's a series that should have stopped after book 2.  But in saying that, I flew through it and it was a lovely way to end my busy days!

Beautifully written first novel

The Herbalist - Niamh Boyce

When I saw the cover of 'The herbalist' I knew straight away that it would be a tale of 1950's Ireland. When I picked it up, I had a feeling that it would be a brilliant read! I wasn't wrong!

'The herbalist' is one of the most compelling stories I've read by an Irish author in a very long time. Each character comes alive through Niamh Boyces beautiful words which just jump off the pages and carry you back to that day at the fair when 'the herbalist' arrived.

The tale of how this man impacted on a small community unfolds slowly enough to develop feelings of love and hate towards the characters, but not so slowly that it becomes a boring read.

I read this while on holiday last summer, I think the time has come to read it again.

Not as good as expected.

The Husband's Secret - Liane Moriarty

'The husbands secret' was recommended to me by my beloved kindle upon finishing 'sharp objects' by Gillian Flynn. I expected 'The husbands secret' to be of a similar genre, a thriller. Pages and pages of five star reviews popped up so I thought, yup, this'll be a good 'un!

The story is set in Australia. But closing your eyes, you could imagine the events in any town or city around the world. The author uses little descriptive writing with regard to the setting. Some might say this is a good thing! Personally, I love to be whisked away into the plot!

The entire story hinges on the secret of one man, John Paul Fitzpatrick. the fact that he has a secret is revealed early in the story, but what the secret actually is, is saved for later. I can't say it's amazing, in fact, I'd say the majority of readers guessed it when they read the blurb!

Its impossible to review this book without giving little spoilers, so I'll recommend 'The husbands secret' as an entertaining quick read.
